Task #8 and #9 - RSS Feeds

I really like the idea of an RSS feed - I do not know why I haven't joined this sooner! I have been an avid blog reader for a number of years, and instead of checking bookmarks, I can simply go to my GoogleReader and just READ WHAT'S NEW!!! What a concept! I don't think I would like to do a feed for things that get updated every hour, but for general library/knitting/craft/cooking blogs, I am totally sold on this idea! I found a number of library review blogs at the end of the school year, which I added to my RSS Feed, and they have helped me with title selection for my 2 libraries. Just having some new titles to check out and read this summer has been wonderful!

Week #3, Task #7 - Technology

As an elementary librarian, I really like using digital cameras as a way to share pictures with multiple people in multiple ways. We can easily save images to a CD, and use the photos in presentations, posters, and even on websites. I also REALLY like using a data projector in my library when teaching online tools and the OPAC. I only have 5 OPAC/ Internet computers in my library, so it can be a challenge to teach a class of 24 on a normal sized screen. Using a data projector allows everyone to see what is going on!

Week #3, Task #5

I opened an account in Flickr, but made my pics private - I don't want the whole world seeing my little girl! Here is one picture of her, however being silly before swim class this spring. She was trying asparagus for the first time and liked it (the salt on the asparagus anyway!)

Week #3, Task #6

Mashups are pretty interesting - VERY time consuming, but fun to wander around. I really liked trying out Montager. I would have liked Mappr, but they discontinued adding pictures in 2007. When I tried out Montager, I used search terms like face, green, fabric, and library. The mosaic and the images that were brought up were interesting to see! I did go to the trading card site listed in the WEB 2.0 blog, and played around with making my own trading card, but decided against saving it. Maybe next time??? :)
In reading news, I just finished The Time Traveler's Wife the other day - AWESOME, TREMENDOUS read - just amazing!!! Time to head back to the library for some more reading books!
